Overview
Czech words change their endings depending on the sentence: bota, boty, botě, botou, botách. A plain text search treats each of these as a different word, so a customer searching for one form misses products that use another.
The Czech Linguistic Service solves this for [navigate:/help/en/user-flows/keyword-search|Keyword Search|search]. It reduces words to their base form (the lemma) both when your data is indexed and when you type a query, so all forms of a word match each other. It works automatically and needs no configuration.
What It Does
card: Base forms
icon: type
Words are reduced to their dictionary form using a Czech dictionary, for example "českého" becomes "český" and "jazyka" becomes "jazyk".
card: Stop words
icon: filter
Very common words such as "a", "na", "pro", "nebo" or "který" are ignored, so they do not drown out the words that matter.
card: Text normalization
icon: refresh-cw
Text is converted to lower case and normalized, so "Boty", "BOTY" and "boty" are the same.
Where It Applies
The service is part of keyword search, so you benefit from it wherever keyword search is used:
- The has keywords operator in the filter bar and the Advanced Filter Editor
- Keyword queries typed directly into the filter bar
- Keyword search triggered by the AI Query Builder
- Searchable selects, such as Category or Brand

Example
Suppose your catalog contains a product named “Pánské kožené boty” (men’s leather shoes).
| You search for | Result |
|---|---|
boty |
Found |
botách |
Found, because the form is reduced to the same base word |
kožených |
Found, because it shares the base form with “kožené” |
a boty |
The word “a” is a stop word and is ignored, so this behaves like boty |
1. Open [navigate:/products|Products|shopping-cart].
2. Open the **Advanced Editor** in the filter bar.
3. Add a condition with the **has keywords** operator.
4. Type a Czech word in any form, for example `kožených`.
5. Click **Apply** and review the matching products.
Tips
**Search the way people write:** You do not need to guess the exact ending of a word. Type the form that comes naturally and the base form is matched for you.
- Use meaningful words. Because stop words are ignored, a query consisting only of words like “a”, “pro” or “na” will not return useful results.
- Names and codes are matched as written. Words that are not in the Czech dictionary, such as product codes, brand names or words from other languages, are matched by their exact spelling.
- New or unusual words. If a word is missing from the dictionary it is still found, but only in the form in which it appears in your data.
**Not a replacement for semantic search:** The service improves matching of word forms. If you want to find products by meaning, for example "something warm for winter", use [navigate:/help/en/user-flows/semantic-search|Semantic Search|search].
